ULTRASOUND

Ultrasound is a technique that creates images on screen of internal organs, tissue or a fetus by means of sound waves and computer technology. These images can be printed on photographic paper. The ultrasound waves are transmitted through a transducer, a hand-held device, which the ultrasound professional moves over the abdomen in order to get the desired image on screen.

3D/4D ultrasound

With three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound technology, the transducer performs a series of scans very rapidly from different angles, which are then electronically composed into one 3D picture. 3D provides a realistic and clear view of the baby. Since eventual movements of the baby will also be captured, this technique is also referred to as 3D/4D ultrasound.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does the ultrasound consultation take and how does it work?

The ultrasound consultation takes 10 to 45 minutes depending on the desired examination; a gender determination (2D ultrasound) takes 10 to 15 minutes. A 3D/4D session can take up to 45 minutes. The consultation takes place in a relaxed and quiet environment.  While the ultrasound professional moves the transducer over the abdomen, the images of the child are seen on a screen. The ultrasound professional gives detailed information about the images. If the expectant parents so wish, the ultrasound professional can reveal the gender and/or provide the measurements of the child.

The purpose of the ultrasound session is to obtain a clear view of the baby in order to get realistic prints for the parents. We also believe that the ultrasound session enhances the intimate bonding between parents and child during pregnancy.

During the ultrasound session a number of (color) prints will be made from the best images. These pictures are for you to take along. We can also store pictures on CD, and record the entire session on DVD for you. During the session the ultrasound professional is open for any question you might have and she will be most happy to provide you with as much information as possible.

Is ultrasound scanning harmful?

Like regular ultrasounds, 2D-3D/4D ultrasounds use sound waves to create an image of your baby in the womb. Studies suggest that 2D-3D/4D ultrasounds are safe. In addition, the images can help doctors spot a problem with the baby and make it easier for them to explain it to you.

When is the best time for an ultrasound?

"Babyview" does 2-dimensional (2D) ultrasounds from 10 weeks of pregnancy. However, most 2D ultrasounds are done between 16 and 24 weeks.

When is the best time for a 3D ultrasound?

The best time for a 3D ultrasound is between 27 and 32 weeks of pregnancy. The baby has then formed enough fat tissue, which gives more expression to the face. Depending on the position of the placenta and the amount of amniotic fluid, the chance for nice 3D images is up to 33 weeks of pregnancy.

Will a 3D ultrasound always be successful?

A 3D scan is not always successful. Although we work with very sophisticated equipment the success of the ultrasound depends on the position of the baby and the amount of amniotic fluid. The thickness of the skin and underlying fat tissue of the expectant mother also determine the success of a 3D scan. For corpulent ladies the results might be less satisfactory.

Technically it is always possible to perform a 3D scan, but we would love to record a nice picture of the baby's face. Our equipment enables us to easily and quickly create new images, so there is a great chance to capture a good image.

Do you also examine medical aspects?

Except for the anomaly scan (mid pregnancy scan) to check that your baby is developing normally, “BabyView” does not perform medical diagnostic examination. The purpose of the regular ultrasound sessions is to obtain a clear view of the baby in order to get realistic images and prints for the parents.

Should, during a regular ultrasound scan, the ultrasound specialist discover something that requires further medical examination, she will, in consultation with the parents, contact and inform their specialist.

When is the best time to find out the gender?

“BabyView” will do gender determination from the 16th week of pregnancy. The gender will only be revealed on request of the parents.

May I invite family or friends to my appointment?

You decide who you bring to the ultrasound consultation. An ultrasound session of your child remains a personal and intimate event. For a pleasant and undisturbed course of the event, we recommend limiting the number of extra persons to four. If young children come along, we advise you to prepare them well for the experience.

When and how should I pay?

Payment to be made at the end of the consultation. We accept only cash payment.

Do you have Gift Certificates?

Yes, we have Gift Certificates available.
